Aquarion Water Company of Massachusetts Plans to Request Change in Distribution Rates
Plain Language Summary
On or after November 15, 2026, Aquarion Water Company of Massachusetts (“Aquarion” or “Company”) will file a request with the Department of Public Utilities (the “Department”) to update its water distribution rates. The Department will review this request and, if approved, updated water distribution rates will take effect on October 1, 2027.
This process, which is commonly known as a “rate review,” allows the Department to review the actual costs of providing water service and determine if updated rates are appropriate. Aquarion last requested a rate review in 2017 in docket D.P.U. 17-90. The rate review is necessary to cover the costs of operating and maintaining the water system, replacing aging infrastructure, and continuing investments to support water quality, regulatory compliance and reliable service.
For a typical residential water customer, the average monthly bill is estimated to increase by approximately 25% to 35%.
Aquarion serves customers in Dover, Oxford, Plymouth, Millbury, and Sheffield, Massachusetts.
