PFAS Treatment Project Scheduled to Start January 6, 2025
WOODBURY, Conn. – December 23, 2024 – Aquarion Water Company is performing essential work on water infrastructure in Woodbury to ensure continued system water quality.
On January 6, 2025, Aquarion's contractor is scheduled to begin constructing its water treatment facility at 118 S. Pomperaug Avenue. A new, stand-alone building will be built to house new treatment equipment for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) removal from drinking water. The new facility will replace the temporary PFAS treatment equipment currently in place and is expected to be completed by June 2026.
Aquarion anticipates partial project funding from the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), which will help reduce the project's cost. The project is intended to ensure that drinking water treated at the facility complies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for six PFAS announced on April 10, 2024.
"We greatly appreciate residents' patience as we complete these important projects," said Mike Hiltz, Aquarion's Manager of Capital Delivery, Engineering and Planning. "We will work closely with our customers, neighbors, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize disruptions."
Normal working hours for construction will be between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. East Haven-based Pat Munger Construction Company, Inc. will serve as the general contractor for the treatment project. Project construction is not expected to impact traffic in the area.
