Water Infrastructure Work to Begin in Greenwich

May 16, 2022 by Peter Fazekas Connecticut

Water main replacement project scheduled to start mid-June/early July

GREENWICH, CONN. – May 16, 2022 – Aquarion Water Company continues to perform essential work on infrastructure necessary to ensure continued system reliability.  Pending approval by the Greenwich Board of Selectmen, a water main replacement project is scheduled to begin in Greenwich by mid-June/early July, on Brookside Drive.  The project is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.  Final paving will then be scheduled in coordination with the Town of Greenwich.

The project, which will replace approximately 2,300 feet of water main, is part of an ongoing program to improve Aquarion’s water distribution system and to ensure the highest quality water.  The infrastructure upgrades will also help to reduce leaks and water main breaks that can cause service interruptions.

“We greatly appreciate residents’ patience during this project,” said John Farrell, Aquarion’s Pipeline Coordinator.  “We will work closely with our customers, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize disruptions.”

Due to construction, customers should expect minor traffic delays and possible detours during the working hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Westport-based A.J. Penna & Son Excavating will be serving as the contractor for the water main replacement project.  Snyder Civil Engineering will oversee the project and will have a representative on site during construction.

Once the new water main installations are complete, each customer’s water service line will then need to be transferred from the old water main to the new water main.  During this switchover there will be a short disruption in service, generally under one hour.  Vendors working with Aquarion will contact customers directly to coordinate scheduling of their service line switchover.  Aquarion representatives always carry proper identification.

To keep customers informed about scheduled/unscheduled work, Aquarion utilizes an Everbridge notification system to call affected customers.
