Outdoor Watering Limited in Dover Due to Significant Drought

DOVER, Mass. – July 2, 2026 – Aquarion Water Company today announced that a Level 2 Significant Drought continues to affect the region. As a result, outdoor watering is now limited to the use of hand-held hoses or watering cans between 5:00 pm and 9:00 am. Aquarion urges Dover and Springdale customers to comply with these updated mandatory restrictions.

Aquarion’s restrictions are consistent with the Town of Dover's water-use restrictions and the Massachusetts Drought Management Plan. Customer cooperation is essential to helping ensure a sustainable drinking water supply.

Under these mandatory restrictions, all nonessential outdoor water use is prohibited except for watering with hand-held hoses or watering cans between 5:00 pm and 9:00 am. Nonessential water use includes sprinkler- and automatic-irrigation of lawns, vehicle washing, and washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, and driveways.

Aquarion recommends several ways to conserve water outdoors.

  • Let your grass grow longer. This will encourage deeper roots and keep your grass cool and moist during dry spells.
  • Hold off on watering if the forecast calls for rain.
  • Use a rain barrel to capture water running from your roof to use in your garden.
  • Delay new landscaping projects until the fall.
